For families & caregivers
You don’t have to carry this alone either
Helping a parent move is love, logistics, and a lot of lifting. We’ll take the heavy parts, so you can focus on your mom or dad.
You’re not the only one
So many of us are doing this
Maybe you’re juggling work and kids, or you live three states away. Maybe you’re the one sibling who lives close. Whatever your situation, you shouldn’t have to pack a lifetime by yourself.

How we help families
One team, one plan, no guesswork
One point of contact
One person who knows the whole plan and answers your calls.
Far away? We’re your hands here
Photo updates and a video call on moving day, so you see every step.
We work with the staff
Move in dates, room layout, and building rules coordinated with the community.
Gentle downsizing
Your parent leads. We help decide what comes, what goes to family, and what’s donated.
Keepsakes to the grandkids
Heirlooms delivered to family here in the Treasure Valley.
Ready on the first night
The bed made, photos up, and the lamp on before your parent arrives.
Starting the conversation
Five ways to make it easier
- Start early. Sorting takes longer than packing. Time makes room for good talks.
- Let them lead. It’s their home and their story. Ask before you decide.
- Talk about what they gain. Safety, friends, meals, fewer stairs, less upkeep.
- One room at a time. Small wins beat one overwhelming weekend.
- Ask for help. Siblings, friends, and the Pathways team can share the load.
Family moving checklist
6 to 8 weeks out
- Tour the new home and get the floor plan
- Call Pathways for a free visit
3 to 4 weeks out
- Choose furniture that fits the new rooms
- Decide on keepsakes for family
- Update mail, pharmacy, and doctors
Moving week
- Pack a going with me bag: medications, glasses, hearing aids, chargers, papers, a favorite blanket
- Plan a calm moving day for your parent: lunch out, or time with a friend
Questions from adult children
What families ask us
I live out of state. Can you still help my mom?
Yes. We can be your hands here. We’ll call you after the visit, send photos as we go, and set up a video call on moving day so you can see her new home come together.
My dad doesn’t want to move. What should I do?
Go slowly, listen more than you talk, and focus on what he gains: safety, company, less upkeep. We’re happy to visit and answer his questions directly, with no pressure.
Can you work with the assisted living staff?
Yes, every time. We coordinate move in dates, elevator times, room layout, and any rules with community staff.
What happens to the things that don’t come along?
We help sort what goes to family, what gets donated to local charities, and what can be sold. Keepsakes for family in the Valley can be delivered.
Who pays if my parent qualifies for help?
If your parent qualifies for full assistance, the foundation covers the move through gifts from donors and partners. With a shared cost, your parent pays only their written share.
